Home Base

Special Veterans Day message from Home Base’s Executive Director Brigadier General (ret.) Jack Hammond

Dear Friends of Home Base,

Today, on Veteran’s Day, I want to personally thank the brave men and women who have served our country. To supporters of Home Base, we are grateful for your ongoing commitment to the mission of Home Base and the Veteran community we serve.  Your support honors the service and sacrifice to those who have so bravely answered the call of duty to protect our freedom – our safety – our way of life.

As we honor and thank our Veterans, we must recognize the struggle that they often face when they come back from their service. These heroes spend months, sometimes years away from families, friends, and their homes. Their sacrifice is immeasurable, and after the “hard work” of war is behind them, the invisible wounds of war surface.

Over the last year, many unprecedented events have rocked the community of Veterans, Service Members, and their families. The need for care, support, and hope for these heroes has become more urgent than ever.

Our nation continues to face challenges, from the ongoing pandemic to tensions around the globe. Military suicides have increased 20% since the onset of the pandemic, with nearly 20 Veterans losing their lives to suicide each day. The recent events in Afghanistan impacted the military community in devastating ways, reopening old wounds for some and deepening current wounds for others. Now more than ever, these heroes need a grateful nation to fulfill their promise of serving them as they have so courageously done for us.

Today, we honor the Veterans who have fought for our freedom, and the families they left behind for months or more to protect our way of life.  Join me in thanking our Veterans and dedicating this day to their honor, their service, their sacrifice.

Despite the challenges faced by our Veterans, returning Service Members, and their families, there is hope. Home Base provides that hope with life-changing world class clinical care and support. Tune in today to WCVB-5 to hear first-hand from Home Base patients their stories of success, achievement, resilience, and taking their lives back.

Veterans, we stand with you now and forever. Your mission is complete, ours has just begun.

Respectfully,

Jack Hammond
