Skillful Parenting

Skillful Parenting is a 7-session educational course that helps Military-connected Family Members learn helpful tools to feel more confident in their parenting and better support their children.

What is Skillful Parenting?

At Home Base, we believe that when a Family Member serves, the entire Family serves. Skillful Parenting, developed by Staff Psychologist Dr. Wesley Sanders, is a seven-session series of courses designed to help Families feel more confident in their parenting, provide healthy boundaries and routines for their children, and reduce parenting stress.

Please note that this program is educational in nature. Should you be interested in direct clinical care to support your child or Family Members, please contact your local provider for assistance.

 

Who will benefit most from this program?

  • – Adults with parenting responsibilities for school-age children between ages 5-14 in the home
  • – Parents looking for practical tools and skills to support their parenting needs

About the Program

The program provides participants with:
  • Recognize impact of Military service on parenting & child behavior
  • Balance warmth with healthy boundaries for children
  • Set effective routines at home
  • Develop skills to increase good behavior & decrease not-so-good behavior
  • Learn about impact of screen time
  • Participate in optional content addressing challenges of PTSD & divorce, & their impact on parenting

    Offered at no cost to the participant

  • Eligibility

    Military Family Members and Veterans — regardless of the Veteran’s discharge status or era of service — and Active Duty, National Guard and Reserve Service Members
