MMHF at Home Base
Massachusetts Military Heroes Fund (MMHF) is officially MMHF at Home Base, permanently cementing the long-standing partnership between Home Base and MMHF.
On April 4, 2024, Massachusetts Military Heroes Fund (MMHF) formally merged with Home Base after 15 years of serving post-9/11 Massachusetts Families of the Fallen — defined as Military Families from Massachusetts who have lost an active-duty Service Member since September 11, 2001 — permanently cementing the long-standing partnership between Home Base and MMHF and officially becoming MMHF at Home Base.
MMHF at Home Base provides critical mental healthcare as well as financial assistance, advocacy and benefits navigation, and specialized referrals to post-9/11 Massachusetts Families of the Fallen, and hosts signature community-building events in Boston, including the iconic Memorial Day Flag Garden on Boston Common each May and the annual 9/11 Service Project to Support Our Troops and Families.

Financial Assistance
We currently offer three financial assistance programs — basic needs, emergency casualty assistance and family enrichment.

Limited financial assistance for post-9/11 Massachusetts Families of the Fallen whose ability to provide for themselves has been compromised by the loss of an active-duty Service Member, which can be the bridge for missed rental and mortgage payments, utility bills and other basic necessities.
Emergency Casualty Assistance
Emergency financial assistance for post-9/11 Massachusetts Families of the Fallen impacted by the loss of an active-duty Service Member who was an immediate family member.
Family Enrichment
Annual financial assistance — up to $1,000 per year — for post-9/11 Massachusetts Families of the Fallen impacted by the loss of an active-duty Service Member to be used for services and programs that can enrich their quality of life, including but not limited to uninsured mental health counseling fees, life-coaching services and career-counseling services.
Advocacy and Benefits Navigation / Specialized Referrals
We currently offer both advocacy and benefits navigation to assist post-9/11 Massachusetts Families of the Fallen with obtaining social services, insurance payments and other benefits, which can be difficult to navigate after the loss of a loved one, as well as specialized referrals for post-9/11 Massachusetts Families of the Fallen to local resources for mental healthcare.
Community-Building Events in Boston
Memorial Day Flag Garden
Each of the 37,000+ American flags planted at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument on Boston Common during the week of Memorial Day represents every brave Massachusetts Service Member who gave their life defending our country since the Revolutionary War.
9/11 Service Project to Support Our Troops and Families
Activities on September 11, a National Day of Service and Remembrance, at the Mother’s Walk on Rose Kennedy Greenway include building care packages and writing letters of support to our troops overseas and local Veterans in partnership with Project 351.
United We Stand Massachusetts License Plate
In 2003, the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) established the specialty license plate United We Stand to commemorate the lives lost on September 11, 2001.
In their years on the road, these plates have raised critical awareness and dollars to support post-9/11 Massachusetts Families of the Fallen, currently through MMHF at Home Base, as well as local families of 9/11 victims and first responders.
Your purchase will help us provide critical services to post-9/11 Massachusetts Families of the Fallen. Additionally, the United We Stand message conveys a sense of unity that is needed now more than ever. Click here or visit your local RMV to order your new plate.
