Home Base Adventure Series: Family Hike at Talcott Mountain in Connecticut with ODO
Join Home Base and Open Doors Outdoors for the first hike of our summer season: Talcott Mountain! This hike is in Simsbury, Connecticut, 6 miles west of Hartford. This is a beginner hike perfect for families with younger children or those who are new to hiking. Talcott Mountain is known for the historic Heublein Tower, providing panoramic views of the Hartford skyline and the Farmington River valley. From the peak, you can see all the way across Massachusetts to Mount Monadnock in New Hampshire and all the way to Long Island Sound in the south.
Open Doors Outdoors serves Veterans, their families and young people by taking them into the outdoors for reconnection, healthy activity and healing. Through organized activities, participants gain physiological and psychological benefits. Research shows that time spent outdoors can improve mental health such as: stress, depression, anxiety, and PTSD. ODO strives to provide all individuals access to the outdoors, providing an equitable healing experience. One adventure at a time, ODO’s holistic approach heals and restores lives on many levels.
The hike will be on Saturday, May 6th starting at 8 am at 1 Summit Ridge Drive, Simsbury, CT 06070. Children are welcome to attend. Tickets are limited for this event and Home Base will likely run a lottery.
