Rebecca Zakarian, PhD

Dr. Rebecca Zakarian is a clinical psychologist at Home Base, working in the Intensive Clinical Program and outpatient clinic. She completed her undergraduate studies at Amherst College in western Massachusetts and received her doctorate from the University of Memphis. She completed her doctoral internship and post-doctoral fellowship at VA Boston, where she provided assessment and therapy services to Veterans within the Center for Returning Veterans, Women’s Trauma Recovery Team, and Interdisciplinary Transgender Treatment Team.

Dr. Zakarian is trained in the provision of trauma-related treatments including Cognitive Processing Therapy and Prolonged Exposure, as well as general treatments including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. She has experience working with Veterans and civilians in areas related to trauma, depression, anxiety, substance use, and other concerns such as reintegration and adjustment stress. Her research interests include understanding the negative emotions associated with PTSD, such as shame and anger. Dr. Zakarian uses a patient-centered, strengths-based approach in combination with evidence-based practices to help patients reduce distress, improve their quality of life, and affirm important aspects of their identities and values.
