Luiza Welton, MSW, LICSW holds a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Columbia University. She completed her B.A. degree in Psychology at Hunter College – CUNY, in New York City. While completing her undergraduate degree she interned at Lenox Hill’s inpatient psychiatric unit and assisted in co-facilitating therapeutic groups for adults in psychiatric crisis. Prior to joining the Home Base team she worked at Bellevue Hospital in a program for survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence and other crimes. Her experience working with survivors of crime gave her a broad exposure to trauma work both in its immediate aftermath as well as its longer term effects. At Bellevue Hospital, in addition to providing clinical and crisis intervention services, she engaged in community work offering workshops on the prevention of sexual violence, techniques for bystander intervention, and trainings on delivering trauma-informed services. She has completed post-graduate training in somatic techniques to integrate body work in trauma therapy and is specifically interested in the mind-body connection. Luiza also speaks Portuguese and Spanish due to her background in multicultural communities. Here at Home Base Luiza has the privilege of serving veterans and their families in the Intensive Clinical Program.
