Get Social (+Fit)…Distantly

The current climate has interrupted fitness programming. With gyms closing, canceled classes, and social distancing from workout buddies, staying active can be a challenge nowadays.

But how do you stay motivated and not let your workout routine take a backseat during this challenging time?

Make movement and exercise a scheduled part of your day.   Remember that exercise and physical activity impact health in different ways. Schedule moderate to vigorous-intensity exercise during breaks and make time for light level physical activity to keep you moving throughout the day.  Exercise is challenging and requires an increased heart rate, while physical activity is movement through daily activities such as light walking.  Most people don’t get enough either exercise nor physical activity.

Through the power of social media and technology, you can be with your friends without being in the same room. Connect socially while getting physically active and staying physically distant.

Consider smartwatch or phone apps to connect and compete with friends, challenging yourself to stay active.
