Copperleaf Charitable Foundation Brings Community Together to Honor Veterans and Remember 9/11
The Copperleaf Charitable Foundation’s annual Veteran Appreciation Golf Tournament brought the community together for a heartfelt day of remembrance, gratitude and support for Veterans and Military Families. The gathering welcomed more than 100 golfers and guests for a day of camaraderie and reflection, while raising awareness of Home Base Florida’s mission to bring healing and hope to the military community.
Held each year in remembrance of the September 11 terrorist attacks, the tournament unites Copperleaf members and Veterans for a day of camaraderie, appreciation and community while honoring those who served in the years that followed. As the country observed the 25th anniversary of 9/11, this year’s event served as a meaningful reminder of the enduring bonds between Veterans and the communities that stand beside them.
A highlight of the gathering was the participation of 36 Veterans, as well as 66 community partners from the Copperleaf community. The 18-hole scramble concluded with lunch, a raffle and an awards ceremony. Guests also heard a powerful testimonial from U.S. Navy Veteran Darnell Johnson, a Home Base Florida program participant, who shared how Home Base Florida supported his journey toward healing and connection.
Beyond the day on the course, the tournament reflected a longstanding relationship between Copperleaf and Home Base Florida – one rooted in a shared commitment to supporting the military community.
Since 2016, the Copperleaf Charitable Foundation has contributed more than $287,500 to Home Base Florida through a variety of annual fundraising activities. The nonprofit organization, which collects and distributes funds for food, education and health care to benefit local charities and the communities surrounding Copperleaf Golf Club, has also supported Veterans participating in Home Base programs through this tournament and free golf lessons.
“September 11th is a day that carries deep meaning for our Veteran community, and this tournament is a powerful reminder that remembrance is also about how we show up for one another,” said Larry Whitmore, Home Base Florida Director.
“Every year, this tournament gives us an opportunity to do something simple but meaningful: bring people together and let our Veterans know that their service has not been forgotten,” said CCF Board President Bill Starr. “We are proud to stand alongside Home Base and support the work they do every day.”
This annual tradition continues to reflect the patriotism, generosity and care of the Copperleaf community, creating space for Veterans, golfers and supporters to come together in remembrance and appreciation.
