A Veterans Day Message from General Fred Franks, U.S. Army (Ret.), Honorary Director of Home Base Florida

Dear Fellow Veterans and Friends,

As we gather across America and Florida to honor our Veterans and their Families this Veterans Day, we are reminded of the profound debt we owe to all who have worn the uniform in service to our Nation. Each of them took an oath to “support and defend the Constitution,” trusting that we, in turn, would uphold a sacred promise—to be there for them and their Families when they return home, and for the Families of the Fallen.

This is a day not only of remembrance and gratitude but also of renewed commitment—to continue honoring the sacrifices made by our Veterans, current service members, and their loved ones. Having commanded troops in combat, including the honor of leading VII Corps during Operation Desert Storm, I have witnessed firsthand—in both Vietnam and the Gulf—the courage, skill, and unshakable resilience required to answer the call of duty.

Today, alongside Senior Director Armando Hernandez and the dedicated Home Base Florida team, I write to express our deepest gratitude and to highlight the vital work being done to fulfill that enduring trust to those who have given so much.

Veterans Day is a powerful reminder that freedom is never free. It is secured by the dedication of millions who have not only fought visible battles but also continue to face unseen ones—the invisible wounds of war such as post-traumatic stress, traumatic brain injury, and the emotional toll carried by their Families. At Home Base Florida, we are proud to stand with these heroes, providing comprehensive care that meets their unique needs and helps them reclaim their lives.

Since our beginning in Southwest Florida in 2014, guided by that same sacred promise, Home Base Florida has served thousands of Veterans throughout the state. This has been made possible through Veteran-centered care developed in partnership with our strategic allies—devoted citizens, businesses, organizations, and the many golf and country clubs that host events in support of our mission. But our work is far from done.

On this Veterans Day, let us recommit ourselves to supporting our Veterans—not only with words, but with meaningful actions. Whether by volunteering, donating, or simply listening, every effort strengthens our community and honors those who have served and sacrificed for us all.

Armando, our team, and I invite you to join us in this mission. Together, we can continue to fulfill that sacred trust—to ensure that no Veteran is ever left behind.

With grateful appreciation and deepest respect,

General Fred M Franks
