Ryan Sliwak, MA, PhD
Dr. Ryan Sliwak is a postdoctoral clinical fellow at Home Base. He earned both his M.A. and Ph.D. from Seton Hall University and holds a bachelor’s degree from UMBC. Before joining Home Base, Dr. Sliwak completed an APA-accredited internship at the Albany Psychology Internship Consortium, where he focused primarily on clinical work at the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center, specifically in the PTSD outpatient clinic and neuropsychological testing. Prior to his APA internship, he received doctoral training at the Lyons VA Medical Center on the Substance Abuse and PTSD Residential Rehabilitation Program (SAARP) unit, gaining additional experience in neuropsychological evaluations within inpatient settings.
Dr. Sliwak has trained in various evidence-based assessment methods and treatments for PTSD, including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). Regardless of the type of treatment, he places great importance on the interpersonal processes that underlie the therapeutic relationship. His research interests include complex trauma and prolonged grief, particularly as they relate to narrative development and meaning-making. These interests stem from his previous work with children who lost a parent on 9/11.
Outside of Home Base, Dr. Sliwak enjoys spending time outdoors and staying active, whether exploring the woods in the fall or snowboarding in the winter. A native of Long Island, he takes every opportunity to enjoy the beach or spend time on the water during the warmer months.
