A message from our Executive Director: Veterans Day 2024
Dear Home Base Nation,
This Veterans Day, I am both humbled and honored to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Veterans of all eras, who have served and sacrificed for our Nation across generations. Thank you for your unparalleled bravery and dedication in safeguarding our cherished freedoms.
Since 2009, Home Base has served over 40,000 Veterans, Service Members and their Families from all 50 states, five territories and 13 countries. I am proud to share that our team was recently recognized with significant regional and international honors — testament to the dedication of our staff and the steadfast support of our community.
In late September, the New England Council presented Home Base with the New Englander of the Year Award. This honor, bestowed upon individuals or organizations for their contributions to their fields, celebrates our impact on the quality of life and economy within New England.
Additionally, the Warrior Care Network — a partnership between Wounded Warrior Project and four leading academic medical centers, including Home Base — received the Sarah Haley Memorial Award for Clinical Excellence. This global honor, awarded by the International Society of Traumatic Stress Studies, recognizes exceptional care for individuals who have endured trauma.
I am thrilled to announce the recent grand opening of our National Center of Excellence expansion. The new Suffolk Innovation Clinic and Wounded Warrior Project Brain Health and Special Operations Performance Clinic represent a leap forward in care and research focused on HealthSpan — the length of time a Veteran or Service Member remains healthy and free from chronic disease. These advanced care models ensure our Veterans receive the support and treatment they deserve to lead productive lives.
Our impact continues to grow, not only in Boston, but across the country. In 2024, we will provide world-class care to over 500 Warriors and their Families through our two-week Intensive Clinical Program, which includes 39 Veteran cohorts and three Families of the Fallen cohorts. We are also doubling the capacity of our Special Operators served through our Comprehensive Brain Health and Trauma Program — from four to eight per week.
Nationally, Home Base Florida has launched a new clinical partnership with Lakeview Health to serve Warriors and their Families in Pensacola and Northwest Florida. In Arizona, our collaboration with Arizona State University enables the continued success of the Warrior Health and Fitness program in Phoenix. Looking ahead, we are exploring expansion into Texas, with a focus on Houston in 2025.
Home Base relies on the generosity of a Grateful Nation, with 80% of our funding coming from philanthropic support. This Veterans Day and throughout the season of giving, I invite you to support our mission to heal the invisible wounds of war for Veterans, Service Members, Military Families and Families of the Fallen.
One way to get involved is by tuning in to WCVB Channel 5 Boston on Wednesday, November 13, for our sixth annual “Helping Veterans Heal” televent. Together, let’s aim to surpass the nearly $384,000 raised during last year’s event.
On behalf of Home Base, I extend my deepest appreciation to all Veterans for your service and sacrifice. We stand with you, your loved ones and the entire Veteran community. If you or a loved one needs support, please reach out to us at homebase.org/getcare.
Sincerely,
Jack Hammond
