Description: What’s a birthday without a party? Double the fun when it’s two birthdays! On October 21, 1797, USS Constitution slipped into the waters of Boston Harbor and began her service to the country. Now 225 years later, we invite you to join us as we celebrate the Ship’s historic career in true birthday fashion with a Birthday Block Party! It’s a double-themed occasion as the USS Constitution Museum is also marking our own milestone of 50 years honoring “Old Ironsides” in the community. We’ll have birthday-themed activities and events throughout the day, including cake! Come leave your birthday wishes for the Ship and enjoy a fun-filled day at the Museum and Charlestown Navy Yard. On October 22, from 11:00 am-3:00 pm the activities and entertainment to mark the day include:
- A USS Constitution-themed 9-hole miniature golf course in the Navy Yard. Test your putting skills and your knowledge, with Constitution and Museum trivia to reflect our history at each hole.
- Try your hand at cornhole and other yard games and interactive activities, hosted by our military branches and USO New England.
- Enjoy the sounds of the Navy Band Northeast’s popular group, “Rhode Island Sounds.”
- Ready, Aim, Fire! Step into the role of the courageous crew who manned USS Constitution and fire your own Alka-Seltzer cannon!
- Put on your ship builder’s cap to design and build your own mini ship. See if you can meet the challenge, testing the speed and strength of your boat!
- Have your cake, too! Partake in a slice of birthday cake and other refreshments (while slices last).
The event is free for all ages and no registration is required.
