Adult Veterans or Service Members with problematic substance use and co-occurring mental health concerns are eligible for the SOAR Program, regardless of Military discharge status. Individuals are also not required to be in individual therapy to participate. This program is not suitable for individuals requiring detox or who are primarily seeking alternative treatments for chronic pain.

Participants can expect to gain insight and information about substance use and recovery with a specific focus on personal triggers and impact of use.

Home Base aims to have every participant leave this program with a range of skills to cope with high-risk situations, personal triggers of use and cravings to use. We will also focus on information and strategies for self-care and repairing and/or initiating safe, supportive relationships in recovery, with the goal of empowering Veterans to enhance their quality of life.

Several types of medication for alcohol use disorder and other substance use disorders, including suboxone, are available via Home Base’s Outpatient Clinic. Veterans can discuss their interest in medication at their intake evaluation or with program providers at any later time, and we will help arrange for a consultation at Home Base or in the community to best meet the individual’s needs.

No. The program follows a “harm-reduction” model, so that each participant is supported in meeting their specific goals, including reducing use and/or abstinence.
