Mission: Gratitude Raises More Than $1 Million for Home Base

Home Base supporters had one goal in mind on November 7: show gratitude for our Armed Forces while having “fun, fun, fun.”

Thanks to the fourth annual Mission: Gratitude featuring the iconic Beach Boys, they were able to do just that. With generous contributions from partners, collaborators, friends, volunteers and staff, Home Base raised more than $1M for Veterans and Service Members suffering from invisible wounds while grooving to the sounds of America’s favorite rock band.

Thousands of supporters joined Home Base at the fourth annual Mission: Gratitude.

The night was surely one to remember. Air Force Veteran and WCVB-TV news anchor Randy Price emcee’d the evening’s events and notable speakers included MGH President Dr. Peter L. Slavin, Red Sox Chairman Tom Werner and Home Base Executive Director Brig. Gen. Jack Hammond.

On the eve of the Presidential election, Boston Mayor Marty J. Walsh and Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker were also in attendance and spoke to the crowd about the importance of Home Base to the 21st century Veteran and Family.

Home Base Overseer Jack Connors also took the stage for a live auction. Generous contributors collectively donated over $300,000 to Home Base in less than ten minutes.

Perhaps the most honored guest of the night was Medal of Honor Recipient Staff Sgt. Ryan Pitts. The Afghanistan Combat Veteran spoke about struggling with invisible wounds himself and introducing Home Base’s services with all Military Service Members meets. Staff Sgt. Pitts assured his fellow Veterans in attendance to never be ashamed to get help for invisible wounds: seeking treatment for PTSD, TBI and other clinical syndromes is one of the bravest actions a Veteran can take.

After a short intermission, the iconic band The Beach Boys took the stage to perform some of their greatest hits, including Kocomo, Good Vibrations, and Barbara Ann.

The Beach Boys headlined this year’s benefit concert.
