Quail Creek Golfs “Fore” Veterans

On Sunday, November 10, 2019, the generous community at Quail Creek Golf Club in Naples, Florida hosted their 3rd Annual Veterans Day Fun Sunday Charity Golf Event, benefiting Home Base Southwest Florida. This year’s event raised $77,800 for Home Base Southwest Florida through registration fees, sponsorships, a silent and live auction and donations.

The event began with an opening ceremony on the steps of Quail Creek’s new Sports Center & Spa.  Naples High School JROTC presented the colors and Naples High School student, Sarah Hardwig, sang a beautiful rendition of national anthem before the 1pm shotgun start.  165 golfers in total, nine of which are Home Base Veterans, hit the links for a scramble-format tournament.  The event concluded with a dinner and reception in Quail Creek’s Cypress Room.  Guests enjoyed a wonderful buffet spread and had the chance to bid on many silent auction items and live auction items.

The Quail Creek Committee is led by U.S. Navy JAG Corps Veteran John Lyncheski.  “I was very proud of my service.  I bleed red, white and blue. I saw the sacrifices of our Veterans firsthand and will never forget them. I also experienced the lack of appreciation for their service and sacrifice. While PTSD and similar trauma was prevalent then, it was not generally diagnosed and dealt with as such and I also observed this firsthand. Home Base has stepped up to the plate in dealing with these conditions and is filling a much-needed gap in service for our vets. It was a no-brainer for me to get behind Home Base,” Lyncheski said.

Residents, many of which are Veterans, including Home Base Southwest Florida’s Senior Advisor U.S. Army Brigadier General (ret.) Ed Dyer, have helped raise over $77,800 through this golf event in support of the programs and services offered by Home Base SWFL.  Lyncheski said, “Watching participants at our event have a good time while embracing and displaying their patriotism and support of our Veterans was great to see. There was not a golf cart without a USA flag.”  Home Base Southwest Florida is honored to have such dedicated, generous, patriotic supporters like the Quail Creek community.
