Preparations are underway “fore” the Pelican’s Nest Golf Tournament, which will be held in November to commemorate Veterans Day. Pelican’s Nest Golf Club, a private, member-owned club, will open to all Southwest Florida residents for the event on Monday, November 12th. In an exciting new development this year, the Pelican’s Nest Golf Club Board has decided to make Home Base its designated charity. Veterans participating in the tournament will golf free of charge. With more than 215 golfers already signed up to participate, the third annual event is sure to be a success.
Proceeds from the tournament will support Home Base’s efforts to provide care and support to the Southwest Florida military community, which is home to roughly 5,000 Post-9/11 Veterans. Though Home Base is headquartered in Boston, the program has long had a presence in Southwest Florida. Monies raised through the Pelican’s Nest Golf Tournament will enable these local Veterans to participate in Home Base’s Southwest Florida Warrior Health and Fitness Program, a three-month wellness program that promotes overall physical and mental well-being. Veterans in need of clinical care can attend Home Base’s Intensive Clinical Program in Boston. Treatment, meals, transportation and lodging are provided at no cost to the patient.
Pat Phelan, a member of Pelican’s Nest Golf Club who has been instrumental in organizing and growing the Pelican’s Nest Golf Tournament, is proud to be part of an event that supports those who have served.
“My number one reason for being involved is to help these young people who gave so much become healthy, happy family members,” she said. “What affects one member of a family affects everyone.”
With the support of her committee of dedicated volunteers, Phelan is confident the tournament will continue to grow. Many Pelican’s Nest members have military connections, and remain committed to giving back to their local military community.
The opening ceremonies will begin at 12:00 p.m., followed by a scramble start at 1:00 p.m. A reception with dinner begins at 5:00 p.m. Tickets to golf are $200 per person and include lunch and dinner. Dinner only tickets are $50. To register, please contact Pat Phelan at 239-980-1609 or email@example.com.
Pelican’s Nest Golf Club will hold its third annual golf tournament to benefit Home Base, a Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital program, and its work with Southwest Florida veterans. The event will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, November 12, 2018 at Pelican’s Nest Golf Club located at 4450 Pelican’s Nest Drive in Bonita Springs.
