Community Events: Southwest Florida

The Home Base team in Southwest Florida is working hard to keep their local Military community busy. Check out the events below for a recap of past events  as well as upcoming events to get you excited.

Participants enjoyed their time at the Lee County Sheriff’s Obstacle Course.

Jumping through hoops. Thanks to Lee County Sheriff’s Department, Home Base friends and families enjoyed testing their agility and strength on the department’s obstacle course on November 2. The event fit well with Home Base’s mission to improve physical health and well-being of Veterans and Service Members.




Participants enjoyed a relaxing yoga session on the water.

h*OM*e Base on the Beach. What could be more relaxing than sunset yoga on the beach? Warrior Yoga instructor Rachel Gray launched Friends and Family Sunset Yoga earlier this year. The group meets monthly to listen to the calming ocean waves as they release their stress through new yoga poses.




A group of Southwest Florida Veterans took on a 5k Mud Run in September.

90 degrees and muddy. In September, six Southwest Florida Home Base friends conquered the Castle Canyon Mud Endeavor in Brooksville, Florida. The 5k was held in 95 degree heat and some warriors chose to run in weighted vests to honor their fallen Military brothers and sisters.



A group of Home Base golfers enjoyed the beautiful golf weather during a tournament in Florida.

Fore! Four Home Base golfers participated in the second annual Memorial Golf Tournament hosted by Heritage Palms Veterans Association  in Fort Myers, Florida in October. The scramble format was an 18-hole fundraising tournament played on the beautiful Heritage Palms golf course. Followed by a catered lunch, silent auction, grand raffle and a tribute to the late Timothy J. Cooney, the first commander to whom the tournament was dedicated.


Upcoming Events: 

Find your zen. The Home Base team in Florida is hosting a second outdoor yoga session on Friday, November 18 at 6 p.m. at Newton Park on Fort Myers Beach. Remember to bring cash for parking and a blanket, sheet or large towel for stretching and yoga-posing. Participants of all ages and abilities are welcome to join.
