Jumping through hoops. Thanks to Lee County Sheriff’s Department, Home Base friends and families enjoyed testing their agility and strength on the department’s obstacle course on November 2. The event fit well with Home Base’s mission to improve physical health and well-being of Veterans and Service Members.
h*OM*e Base on the Beach. What could be more relaxing than sunset yoga on the beach? Warrior Yoga instructor Rachel Gray launched Friends and Family Sunset Yoga earlier this year. The group meets monthly to listen to the calming ocean waves as they release their stress through new yoga poses.
90 degrees and muddy. In September, six Southwest Florida Home Base friends conquered the Castle Canyon Mud Endeavor in Brooksville, Florida. The 5k was held in 95 degree heat and some warriors chose to run in weighted vests to honor their fallen Military brothers and sisters.
Fore! Four Home Base golfers participated in the second annual Memorial Golf Tournament hosted by Heritage Palms Veterans Association in Fort Myers, Florida in October. The scramble format was an 18-hole fundraising tournament played on the beautiful Heritage Palms golf course. Followed by a catered lunch, silent auction, grand raffle and a tribute to the late Timothy J. Cooney, the first commander to whom the tournament was dedicated.
