A Veterans Day Message From Home Base

Gen. HammondDear Friends of Home Base,

Each year, on November 11, we observe Veterans Day and pause to honor the men and women who have worn our Nation’s uniform. Today is about recognizing the contributions Veterans have made throughout our history, to reflect on their dedication and sacrifice and that of their Families, and to reaffirm our commitment to support them well after their mission is complete.

As a Veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, I am grateful for the opportunity to assist my fellow veterans. Each day that I come to work I have the privilege to talk with our Veterans, and I am humbled by their bravery, courage, and sacrifice. It is a privilege to serve them alongside a dedicated staff that stands united in the commitment to our nation’s bravest.

Since the inception of Home Base in 2009, we have served more than 11,000 Veterans and Family Members with care and support, and we have done so at no cost to them.  We can provide these services thanks to generous donations from people who care deeply about the health of Veterans and Families, and want to do whatever they can to serve those who have served us. Upon this Veterans Day, I’d also like to extend our heartfelt gratitude for your support of our shared mission, in helping our Veterans and their Families to truly come home.

On Monday, November 7, Home Based hosted the largest Veterans Day event in New England. Several thousand people joined us for our Mission Gratitude event at the Agganis Arena in Boston, and the outpouring of support for our Veterans and this program was amazing.  Our newest Honorary Board Member, Medal of Honor Recipient Staff Sgt. Ryan Pitts, inspired all in attendance as he discussed the challenges that many veterans of this generation face. I would highly encourage our NE Friends to watch our Veterans Day Special tonight (Nov 11th) on WCVB in Boston and WMUR in NH.  This show will feature many amazing stories, great information regarding Home Base, and SSG Ryan Pitts’ full speech.

On behalf of our esteemed partners, the Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital, and our entire Home Base team, I want to thank all of our Veterans, actively serving members of the military, and military family members for your service and sacrifice. I would also like to express my appreciation to each of you who serve as champions for Home Base every day.  Together we can honor Presidents Lincoln’s pledge to “To care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow, and his orphan,” – their mission is complete, but ours has just begun.

Warm Regards,
Jack Hammond
