Sixteen fundraisers from across the nation are lacing up their running shoes for the 2016 TCS New York City Marathon on November 6. Since 2012, members of the Home Base charity team train remotely and raise much-needed funds for Home Base. In 2014 and 2015, the group raised more than $88,859. The funds support Home Base and the world-class clinical care, wellness programs, research, and education we provide.
Meet our team for this year below.
“The work being done by Home Base is among the most important and productive services provided to Veterans today. The program works to fill a massive void in Veteran’s health care that will only continue to grow as men and women continue to return from war. My primary goal is to raise funds and awareness for the great work that Home Base is doing for Veterans. The opportunity to run as part of the Home Base team for the NYC Marathon is an added bonus!” – Brendan Arkins
“Last October, I took part in the Home Base Warrior Health and Fitness Program. The program has made an impact not only on my physical well-being, but my mental well-being, too. Raising money for Home Base and running in the Marathon is my way of paying them back and hopefully raising awareness for other Vets.” – John P. Quinn
“I know that the challenges I go through are nothing compared to what our Veterans, Service Members and their Families go through, and I’m proud to be fundraising for an organization that works to heal the invisible wounds of war for those who don’t necessarily have a clearly defined path to recovery.” – Katie O’Mealia
“In participating in the TCS NYC Marathon, I hope to raise awareness of Home Base and their mission to support the military community. Their service to our country is undeniably heroic and deserves all the recognition and support. I hope that by participating in this race and supporting this foundation, present and future Veterans and their Families will continue to utilize Home Base’s services.” – Alexis Tashjian
“There is no greater cause then to help support the men, women, and families who protect our freedom. Upon investigating Home Base’s mission, I came to realize the worthiness of the organization. As I looked through the TCS NYC Marathon charities as a way to complete my third world marathon major, the Home Base team stuck out as the obvious and most deserving choice. I am really excited to be a part of this team! GO USA!“ – Emily Blake
“I served in the United States Army and Army National Guard between 1998 and 2012. During that time, I served two combat tours: one in Afghanistan and one in Iraq. Not only do I have many close friends who still suffer from the invisible wounds of war, but I, myself, still struggle to this day. I discovered that running was very beneficial to helping me to cope and I hope to use my running to help others who are still fighting their own battles. After failing to gain entry to the NYC Marathon through the lottery, I decided that I would run for charity. Because Home Base’s mission is so important to me, I knew I wanted to be a part of the Home Base team.” – Jonathan Ley
