Nearly 80 golfers teed off in support of their military community during the 4th Annual Home Base Golf Outing at the Pocasset Golf Club on Monday, June 26th. Organized by Darrin Lang and Seth Burr of LABUR, LLC in Boston, the event raised more than $50K for Home Base, a Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Program. The funds raised support the clinical care and support services provided by Home Base, a Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Program in healing the invisible wounds for Post-9/11 Veterans, Service Members and their Families.
“No organization has done more to fill the void in Veteran’s mental well-being than Home Base,” says event organizer Darrin Lang. “On the outside, this event is a golf tournament, but each swing of the club is a force easing Veterans back into a normal life.”
The void that Lang alludes to is a result of over a decade of conflict overseas. Over the past 13 years, nearly 2.6 million active and reserve members have fought in the Post-9/11 conflicts. Of this population, a staggering percentage have returned with post-traumatic stress (PTS) and traumatic brain injury (TBI). Since inception, the annual Pocasset fundraising event has raised a net total of over $150K to support Home Base and the clinical and support services the program provides to Military Families on a regional and national level.
Event co-host, Seth Burr, echoed Lang’s sentiment, “We have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the men and women who have valiantly served our country. We are humbled by the outpouring support of our community and those who have helped make this year’s golf fundraiser a success.”
It was certainly a memorable day on the Pocasset course. The golf portion of the tournament was followed by a reception dinner, where participants had an opportunity to meet the Home Base team and some of the Veteran beneficiaries of Home Base services.
Amongst the participants was Brigadier General (ret.) Jack Hammond, Executive Director of Home Base. Says Hammond, “We are so grateful for the efforts of Darrin and Seth and the Pocasset golf community for going above and beyond to ensure our Veterans and their Families.
