First Responder No Shave for the Brave
Each November, MBTA Transit Officer, Purple Heart recipient, and former Home Base patient Kurt Power leads a month-long journey to support Home Base and honor his fallen brothers through the annual First Responder No-Shave campaign. Participants make a pledge to forgo shaving and grooming in order to evoke conversation, raise awareness and break the stigma associated with post-traumatic stress (PTS) and other invisible wounds of war. All police, firefighters, corrections officers, EMTs, and paramedics are encouraged to participate. In November 2018, 117 Police Departments from every New England state participated, raising over $273,000 – making the total raised since 2015 over $430,000.
