Our Model

Home Base is dedicated to healing the Invisible Wounds of War for Service Members, Veterans and their Families through clinical care, fitness and wellness-based programs, community outreach, education and research. Our goal is:

  • Develop an effective treatment plan that meets each individual’s needs and improves the quality of his/her life
  • Help overcome or ease the effects of post traumatic stress or traumatic brain injury
  • Help the Service Member or Veteran successfully return to family life, job, school, and community

Our clinicians are part of Massachusetts General Hospital. They are civilian caregivers, but they are experienced in caring for Veterans and Families. They understand the Military culture and the unique needs of Veterans and Military Families.

Clinical Excellence

Home Base’s clinical services are part of the Massachusetts General Hospital and affiliated with Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. For the past 16 years, Massachusetts General Hospital has ranked first in the nation in psychiatry by U.S. News & World Report. The hospital consistently ranks among the top 10 hospitals in the nation overall for patient care. Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, providing outstanding care for Veterans with traumatic brain injury, was ranked fifth nationwide by U.S. News & World Report in 2011, and is the only rehabilitation hospital in New England to make the list since 1995.

Removing Barriers to Care

  • Discharge status: Home Base serves Veterans regardless of discharge status
  • No insurance: Home Base accepts TriCare and other private and public insurance including MassHealth. By law we are required to bill health insurance, but if a Veteran or Family Member has no insurance or a gap in insurance coverage, they will not receive a bill for services provided in the Home Base Outpatient Clinic or Intensive Clinical Program.
  • Appointment Availability: The Veteran or Family Member’s initial evaluation appointment is offered within 2 weeks.
  • Free Parking. Parking for appointments is validated at the Government Center Garage, at the intersection of Merrimac and New Chardon Streets, 2 blocks from the Clinic at 101 Merrimac Street, Suite 250, and few blocks from the Intensive Clinical Program at One Bowdoin Square, 1st
  • In special circumstances, transportation to an appointment by a volunteer former Massachusetts State Trooper can be arranged.
  • Child care: At no cost, patients needing child care in order to attend appointments can reserve space in the MGH Employee Child Care for children Infant through 12 years of age

The Whole Family

When one person serves, the entire family serves. Or as we often say at Home Base, “For every one Warrior, there are 10 worriers.” Recognizing deployment and reintegration affect families across three generations, our clinical care is available to spouses and partners, dependent children, parents, siblings, and close friends of those who have served, even when that Veteran or Service Member is not in treatment him or herself.
